Simply Relax with Meditation

Saturday 6 March

Time: 11am – 12:30pm
Cost: $12 drop-in fee (free for supporting members)

When the turbulence of distracting thoughts subsides and our mind becomes still, a deep happiness and contentment naturally arises from within. This feeling of contentment and well-being helps us to cope with the busyness and difficulties of daily life.

So much of the stress and tension we normally experience comes from our mind, and many of the problems we experience, including ill health, are caused or aggravated by this stress. Just by doing breathing meditation for ten or fifteen minutes each day, we will be able to reduce this stress.

We will experience a calm, spacious feeling in the mind, and many of our usual problems will fall away.

In this class, we will learn methods to calm our busy mind through a teaching and three meditations.

Overcoming Stress, Anxiety and Depression

Learn how to overcome all the painful feelings that almost everyone is experiencing right now, including stress, anxiety and depression. These painful states can have a debilitating effect on our personal life, our work and our relationships. Buddhism teaches simple techniques to reduce and overcome these problems that can be practised by anyone whether Buddhist or non-Buddhist.

In this class, we will explore special ways of thinking and a meditation that can help heal the mind of the source of these problems.

Half-day Course: Developing and Maintaining a Daily Meditation Practice

Time: 10:00am – 12:30pm
Cost: $25 drop-in fee ($12 for supporting members)

Many of us like the “idea” of meditation and very much like to  experience inner peace and tranquility. We also wish to solve our own problems by contemplating and transforming them through the positive energy gained from meditation.

However, we are often held back by all kinds of reasons and excuses; and, get discouraged. Sometimes we even give up, lose interest and as a result lose the momentum of our spiritual training.

In this half-day course, Kelsang Khacho will give Buddha’s teachings on how to increase the power and joy of our meditation practice, so that we can naturally enjoy our spiritual training. She will explain how to make better preparations, how to engage in contemplation and connect with our objects of meditation so that they touch our heart. In this way, we will be able to engage in meditation more consistently, effectively and as a result experience the real joy of meditation.

Opening the Heart and Moving On: The Art of Forgiveness

Forgiveness is a strong and courageous mind that frees us from unnecessary pain. By dwelling on past harm done to us and blaming others, we continue to harm ourselves. Buddha teaches us how to identify the real source of our problems. Through this wisdom, we can learn to forgive others, let go of the past, and move in the direction of healthy, loving relationships and a happy life.

These classes are suitable for both beginners and more advanced meditation practitioners
General meditation classes are given as a series, but can also be taken individually.
